Bhilai. Celebration marked the birth of three female babies to a 28 year old woman at the Apollo BSR hospitals. The availability of infrastructural facilities, dedicated paediatrician and well versed supporting staff have been instrumental in saving all the babies ranging between 750 gms to 1600 gms.
dr rekha ratnaniThe woman, 28 had come to the Apollo BSR Infertility clinic for help, said Dr Rekha Ratnani Gynecologist and infertility specialist. She had had some miscarriages before. After thorough investigations IVF was planned. As luck would have it, she conceived in the very first attempt. Post conception investigations revealed she was carrying triplets. Great care was taken to see through the pregnancy and avoid any untoward complications, which are common in such cases.
The babies were delivered pre term after seven months of pregnancy. The smallest of the babies weighed 750 gms followed by two others weighing 1500 and 1600 gms respectively.
The babies were immediately put under care of Paediatrician Dr Gyanesh Mishra and his experienced team. They managed the babies with minimum intervention. The babies started putting on weight and were soon handed over to the mother.
Doctors and staff of the IVF centre and neonatal wing celebrated the birth of three daughters enthusiastically. The blessed parents expressed deep satisfaction on the services and facilities at the hospital.
Great achievement
Survival in very low birth weight (VLBW) and extremely low birth weight (ELBW) is around 61pc. VLBW (less than 1500 gms) and ELBW (750 gms) are a result of pre mature births (around 27 weeks). Death generally happens due to pulmonary hemorrhage, respiratory distress syndrome, intraventricular hemorrhage and sepsis. The ELBW and VLBW babies were managed with minimum intervention at Apollo BSR.
