SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant’s Rail and Structural Mill has been a forerunner in meeting all track requirements of Indian Railways for about six decades. In an endeavor to meet the stringent straightness requirements a modification has been done at hot saws. The rails are cut to desired lengths at hot saws and there is tendency of rails to get bent at ends during cutting in hot condition resulting in bent ends. These bent end rails have to be either salvaged or refinished which impacts on quality and production.
