2 Week Capacity Building Program for Young Faculty Members in IGNTU

Amarkantak. Department of Economics, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University organized a Two-week Capacity Building Program for Young Social Science Faculty Members. The event is sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research from 19th to 30th September 2022. The main aim of this program is to develop teaching and research capacity in newly appointed faculty members in Social Science.CBP in IGNTU for young faculties
The inaugural session of the above program was organized in the Laxman Havanur Auditorium on19th September 2022. The Chief guest was Prof. P. Kanagasabapathi, Member ICSSR, New Delhi and Executive Council Member, IGNTU The Presiding Guest of the inaugural session was Prof. Shri Prakash Mani Tripathi, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Keynote Speaker Prof Rakesh Raman from the department of economics, Banaras Hindu University and special guest was Smt. Sheela Tripathi, President Shrisheel Mandal, Amarkantak.


Prof. Shri Prakash Mani Tripathi spoke about the importance of capacity building in social science research. He emphasized three types of capacity viz., Individual, Institutional and environmental. Coherency between them also plays a vital role in the development of the individual and the institution. We have to focus on sustainable development because we are the protector of resources. We also accept and adopt the economic principle of demand and demography. He argued that we should develop the overall capacity that helps in the holistic development of individuals, institutes, society and countries.
Professor Raksha Singh, Course Director talked about the technical sessions that will be covered in the two week program to enhance participant’s skills and competencies. She thanked ICSSR for sponsoring this program which will give two fold effects of capacity building to participants and to the students of the department. She talked about the selected resource person and participants the difficulties faced by them due to train cancellations and delays. She also appreciates the Course Co-Director Dr Vinod Sen and the department’s students for their unconditional support.

Prof. Niti Jain, Head of the department, spoke about the courses offered by the department of economics and also focused on how their academic courses capture the tribal economy discourse.
Prof. Ranjini Hasini Sahoo, Dean of the faculty of social sciences, said that this type of capacity-building program is a historical achievement of not only the department of economics but the faculty of social sciences also. This program will help the overall development of individuals, departments, faculty and the university.
Prof. Rakesh Raman spoke about how IGNTU developed their infrastructure over a period of a short time. He emphasized the knowledge economy and includes innovation, skill, and research in quality and quantity dimensions. We must focus on several dimensions of capacity building, such as teaching, research and administrative skill. Teaching and research must grow together to improve the quality of teaching and research. He also spoke about the quality of education and subject area upgradation.


Prof. P Kanagasabapathi focuses on how the local language is a barrier to the quality of teaching and research in India because the country has various local languages. He has discussed how India has developed over a period of time but how the theory of development has been changed from kautilya to now.
Dr. Anand Sugandhe anchored the program and a vote of thanks was proposed by Course Co-director Dr. Vinod Sen to Guests and participants of the Capacity building program.
The program was attended by the Registrar P. Siluvainathan, CEO Prof. N.S. Hari Narayana Moorthy, OSD IGNTU Mr Mishra, Dean of Academics Prof. Alok Shrotriya, Prof. Amarendra Pratap Singh, Prof. Ajay Wagh, Prof. M.T.V. Nagaraju, Prof Anupam Sharma, Prof Renu Singh, Dr Nagendra Singh, Dr. Jeetendra Sharma and other faculty, Scholars, and Students of the Department of Economics as well.
