Bhilai. A 53 year old patient was operated for cancerat the BSR Cancer Hospital for free. The expense of the werthiems hystectomy procedures and medicines was shared between the hospital and Divya Jyoti Foundation, a charitable trust.
The patient, from Pandariya of Kabirdham district was suffering from cervical cancer. Her physically challenged husband has super annuated and the family faces difficulty to make ends meet. She came to the hospital with her daughter, who is a contractual teacher with the state government.
A part of the cost of surgery was borne by Divya Jyoti Charity run by Arvind Jain, Mrs Kanika Jain and Mrs Krishna Jain. The surgery was done by onco surgeon Dr. Nitin Bomanwar,
Radical Wertheim hysterectomy is performed predominantly for stage IB and early stage IIA carcinoma of the cervix and for stage I carcinoma of the vagina. It is also appropriate for stage II adenocarcinoma of the endometrium (corpus excervicus). The operation essentially includes removal of the uterus, upper vagina, and all the parametrial tissues to the pelvic side wall. The ureter and bladder are dissected free and left intact.
